What do you dislike?

I'm not a fan of web-based develop/design environments. I would much prefer a desktop app where I could develop and design reports with the ability to publish complete reports to the server. That's just me.

What do you like best?

What I like most about Yellowfin is that the focus of the company (and the product) is on facilitating the process of delivering great self-service reporting and dashboards. The vast majority of people in most organisations are not self-service analysts, but 'self-service consumers', and need a supported, guided BI experience.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Take careful stock of how many users will simply USE reports and dashboards rather than create their own. If you have a high ratio of users to developers, you will greatly benefit from Yellowfin's ability to assist you fully supporting and maintaining the suite of tools needed to support a wide variety of users.

What do you dislike?

There are some charting functionalities that I would like to see implemented, which I know are available in some other products, and which some of our data would be suited to.

What do you like best?

We can link to all of our data using Yellowfin, without the requirement to push the data into unwieldy cubes and inappropriate dimensions - this gives us the freedom to do real data discovery with the minimum of IT effort, handing the power to the business user.

Try it out and see how quickly you can create a meaningful report - hours not days or weeks.

Calculated fields drag and drop approach easy to use but editor capability would be more flexible.

What do you like best?

Yellowfin's is easy and quicker to work with (install, administer, develop with).

We can create wonderful and powerful visuals.

Yellowfin people and culture are enthusiastic, reliable, friendly and proactive.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Seriously consider. It has been a great decision for us.

If you are considering another then I suggest do a Proof Of Concept of them and Yellowfin and try and cover all items that are important to you including service and support.

What do you dislike?

The one thing I dislike is in the Admin section where you hook up to your data. It could be made to be a bit easier for connecting to the data. While it is a very visual tool, personally, I find it a little bit clunky, but it does produce a nice ER diagram of your data source at the end. To give them credit, they have provided very neat solutions for connecting to data sources like Google Analytics, etc. And they're adding more all the time.

Price - Yellowfin offers serious bang-for-buck

Collaboration - Yellowfin contains collaborative features found in no other BI tool.

User Interface - This easily has to be the best-looking BI tool out there.

We've seen Yellowfin come a long way in the last few years. In this day and age when business decisions are made by teams, it helps that Yellowfin offers a range of really cool ways to annotate, share, and discuss results found in a very visual manner. One feature is a bit like PowerPoint, but with the ability to drill deeper on information on a slide. Another is a 'Facebook' type interface that allows people to comment on a report. Then, of course, you have mans to annotate a report and share it immediately with someone by email.

I also like that you can deploy on premises or in the Cloud (AWS).

Recommendations to others considering the product

By all means compare it to the others - Tableau, Qlik, PowerBI, etc. but you will find Yellowfin to be a very strong contender. Don't be afraid to talk to Yellowfin if there is any kind of problem.

We sold Yellowfin into a company that was using a web-based LDAP security tool that had a couple of incompatibilities, and so we couldn't achieve a true single sign-on. We spoke to Yellowfin and they spoke to the LDAP vendor and worked out a resolution to the problem in a couple of hours, and delivered a patch to resolve it within two days.

That's what I call Customer Support.

What do you dislike?

While importing and found some error, sometimes we need to go to report by report to check which report actually get the error or do partial import as workaround

What do you like best?

dashboard, reports, APIs for additional feature, export-import reports and configurations for newly upgraded application, upgrade can be done easily, simple installation, easy to customize header to reflect our company theme

What do you dislike?

Not easy to import data to the software. The migration process could be streamlined better.

What do you like best?

That it supports Amazon web services for easy deployment. Inexpensive compared to other BI software
