Filemaker for quick app development
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
When utilizing Filemaker Server or even shared Filemaker Databases, the data is stored at the office and accessed via the internet allowing remote employees to see the data, but not have to store it locally. This means that if the device is stolen, no corporate data is at risk.
What do you dislike?
Server still requires a Mac or Windows computer. Can't run under any of the other Unix flavors. An Android or Chromebook client would also be nice but they can still access via the web page interface.
What do you like best?
This platform is one of the most agile and versatile corporate databases out there. When creating new systems, we can make changes on the fly and have them rolled out to client's in a matter of seconds. Also, my users can have access on mobile iOS devices so the users can use the databases from their iPhone and iPads using the native FileMaker Go iOS App. They have also now integrated file encryption and even better file synching so that you do have the option for offline database use. The Windows and Mac cross platform compatibility is fantastic.
Recommendations to others considering the product
Take the time to partner with an existing Filemaker Developer if your product is going to be complex. Your database will be properly designed from the start and be scalable in the future.
