What do you dislike?

Easy to make mistakes, need training, not overly intuitive. To master the program is difficult. Because each item is not able to be deleted, one must be very careful not to make mistakes while using, or make frequent copies.

What do you like best?

Can do a lot of things, the opportunities for this program seem endless. I use this for badge printing and event conference software, but my husband uses it for scientific data entry and database use. Its use can be so varied. It can sort and assess data in really interesting ways, create endlessly unique fields, and can find commonalties among data that is wonderfully useful.

It is a challenging system to use, but once you figure it out, it can be incredibly useful and a great way to manipulate data.

What do you dislike?

FileMaker is made up on a lot of layers so it is specifically designed with your business in mind. With all of the coding, if there's a simple issue that needs addressing, we need to use a company that specializes in FileMaker to correct the issue or implement a new idea we have. It can get costly since we cannot do this ourselves.

What do you like best?

I like the simplicity of the program. The ease of creating accounts, searching for past and present accounts and uploading data.

FileMaker can certainly work to your benefit if you understand that it is created using a multitude of layers. You can create and alter reports to fit your specific business needs which is a great benefit. Data entry is simple and effective.

What do you dislike?

The first thing we really dislike about FileMaker is; at version 10, FileMaker decided to do a breakup point where older file structure became incompatible with new version 11 and above (12, 14, 15, etc.). So one day, all our existing databases became inaccessible if we want to gain access to latest software version. So we decided to stay with v.10 for a while, until it becomes incompatible with newest computers/operating system. Second thing we dislike a lot is the licensing structure for business that are extremely weird and makes it VERY expensive for nothing. The business licensing requires that you pay a annual license fee for ALL BUSINESS EMPLOYEES, no matter if they are using FileMaker or not. It's what they call "business wide licensing" and it's required. Only other option would be to purchase individual retail licences but it's extremely expensive. So for example we are a 65 employees business, but only 20 employees uses F.M., but we have to pay 65x users fees annually!

What do you like best?

Well, only pros about FileMaker is that it's a bit easier to use than other software/database development application software, such as Microsoft Access.

Be careful about the business pricing as I explained in a early question, this can be very expensive for your business.
