Would love built-in css support for true responsive design, as well as option for advanced developers to code in a lower level native languages.

What do you like best?

Versatility. Beginners can build simple apps with little or no scripting that increase team efficiency and effectiveness by orders of magnitude. Advanced users can take those simple apps to the next level and build sophisticated solutions at about 25% cost/time of a traditional from-scratch custom web app.

This is a powerful platform, it's not magical. This is a business tool that will transform your business if you invest in learning how to use it.

A little bit expensive for casual users, but worth every cent for professional business cases.

Scripting engine allows instant building of workflows and program logic for any business scenario.

Consider FileMaker and a small learning curve to do things you can not even dream of in Excel. Much better results and flexibilty. Most people new to Filemaker realize quit fast that they were just using the wrong tool for their needs. So Filemaker eases the way for using a programmable database instead of a dumb spreadsheet.

What do you dislike?

It's easy for untrained users to get started, but standards are not enforced within the app, allowing them to create solutions that are not always built for speed or longevity. The good news is, there are plenty of pros in the marketplace.

FileMaker gives small businesses the ability to solve complex problems with alacrity, making them more competitive with larger operations that have bigger software budgets.

I do wish it played better with Microsoft applications.

I LOVE this platform! I left my mechanical engineering career in Silicon Valley, because I love working with FileMaker. That was 25 years ago. I have never looked back, and now I am certified in 7 versions. The product just keeps getting better!

Doesn't scale much beyond 500 users. The licensing choices are too complex and confusing.

Cross Platform, creates Web and Mobile apps. 20+ years of feature development means a really full-featured and robust development environment.

It's hard to manage the "data design". I hope that we will have a lot of new possibilities to manage that !

With FileMaker everybody can design a solution in a really short time. We have a lot of possibilities of development if we want to make it really complete too !

The licencing policy can be seen as a disadvantage, but compared to the cost of ownership of non "custom made" tools, this cost is, most of the time, well justified.

What do you like best?

With FileMaker we get custom made tools where "ready made" solutions are out of scope. Whenever there is a need for customization, for versatility and evolutions, FileMaker is an excellent candidate. Having worked with a lot of other programming languages, I love the easiness and flexibility of FileMaker. Plus, the end user can have the keys to modify his own tool without deem IT knowledge.

Train a bit with real training solutions or companies if you want to implement your own solution. Or, ask to know existing solutions done with the tool.

It is always bad to try a tool and, while knowing only a few percent of it, deciding it is suited or not for your needs.

Nothing. I have been using FileMaker for over 15 years and have solved countless problems with it.

Easy to get started and automate business tasks. FileMaker changes to fit the needs of your business rather than having to change you business to fir the needs of the software.
