What do you dislike?

lo peor es la instalaciﾃｳn, es muy engorrosa y complicada si no se sabe hacer o si no se tiene una guia, es muy facil configurar mal algﾃｺn aspecto y tener problemas mﾃ｡s adelante.

Sistema gestor de bases de datos propietario de mircrosoft. La potencia de este sistema radica en su optimizaciﾃｳn y fﾃ｡cil integraciﾃｳn con proyectos de desarrollo. Para desarrollar aplicaciones web potentes en .net es sin duda una de las mejores opciones. La rapidez de conexiﾃｳn y la potencia y versatilidad de los procedimientos almacenados hacen que sea muy sencillo trabajar en esta plataforma. Ademﾃ｡s es muy visual y el lenguaje de consultas que incorpora es muy intuitivo. El propio editor de consultas te va sugiriendo ayudas para las tablas y los campos de las mismas, lo cual facilita mucho la labor de realizar consultas, actualizaciones y tareas de mantenimiento. Incluye el Microsoft Sql Server Management Studio que es la herramienta con la que conectar tanto al servidor local o remotos y con la que trabajar de forma visual sobre la base de datos. Ademﾃ｡s incorpora muchos generados de informes, reportes para poder visualizar el estado de las bases de datos y tomar medidas oportunas.

si estas desarrollando .NET, sin duda una soluciﾃｳn Microsoft es la que mayor potendial y nivel de integraciﾃｳn te puede aportar, tanto a nivel de cﾃｳdigo como a nivel de IDE (Visual Studio)

Struggles with performance when processing huge datasets (100s of millions of records)

What do you like best?

Ease of integration of SQL Server with MS Stack. Range of tools for developers and administrators to maintain database.

Recommendations to others considering the product

See if an open source database would meet your needs instead. Ensure that you have a DBA who is experienced in MS SQL Server.

What do you dislike?

Somewhat of a learning curve to write queries.

The flexibility it gives you to store and manage your data.

The new pricing models for Enterprise shut out small businesses from some very cool features, but it's sill a powerful tool.

The performance and the scalability keep getting better with every release. The availability of Dev people for it ensures supportability even when in transition.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you need a product that has full support and is able to be quickly integrated with new team members, the availability of manpower is unsurpassed, and is the industry standard in many respects, until you get to giant data (Oracle/hadoop/etc.)

It is very hard to administer Microsoft SQL, without having prior training

Microsoft SQL is used in many area's of our business and works in relation with our ERP system with no issues

It was stable and functional. Not much to it.

It was simple and easy to use not much to it

It takes some time to get familiar with the work bench and the tables, but once we get familiar testing can be done really quickly.

MS SQL is a very good tool to be used when testing large tables, views etc. that allows to fetch only the applicable data from the database. Hence, it is a big aid in testing.

It is very useful for testing EDW reports and ETL testing once you are aware of all the queries that imply to this tool.

Cost and understanding licensing are the thing I dislike about it. The enterprise version is very expensive. Microsoft licensing had become very difficult to understand, especially with using VM窶冱. There are 2 models: Server + CAL窶冱 and Per Core. Then if you want to be able to move your VM from 1 physical host to another you need to purchase Software Assurance on top of that. Gets very confusing.

What do you like best?

Microsoft is the industry standard when it comes to relational database management systems. This product is mature, stable and well known by most experienced DBA窶冱.

Suggest you consider and compare MS SQL to any existing database engine to see if it has any additional features that might be an improvement.

What do you dislike?

Pricing can be difficult for medium sized companies. There is a breaking point between client access licenses and per processor/core licenses that needs to be observed in order to get the best bang for your buck.

What do you like best?

Microsoft SQL Server provides robust database features to support enterprise needs. It runs on a widely known operating system. It scales as your needs increase. It provides redundancy and high availability features.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be sure to design the hardware and disk subsystems appropriately for your database workload. You don't want the disk IO to be a bottleneck to your system.
