What do you dislike?

Wish Exchange 2007 was still supported - support has been great finding a workaround for this but I feel like this platform is still widely used.

What do you like best?

We have a small business bundle that gives us backup and replication. This was the cheapest by far to other options that we priced out.
Also, the speed of the software is better than the previous software we used (by miles)

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Try to size up the licensing costs alongside your hardware. Sometimes cheaper to reconfig/resize your sockets than buying additional licenses (or license types)

What do you dislike?

I dislike that it is very environment dependent and has a tough learning curve.

What do you like best?

Scalability and ease-of-use deliver on commitment to simplify It for customers. Capacity planning and right sizing streamline budgetary decisions

Deciding which backup schema to use can be confusing at times. Also, we found that if you had raw disk mappings that you cannot back it up to a vault.

What do you like best?

The backups are easy to setup and configure. Restores are especially super fast to restore. I also like the ability to run a virtual machine from a backup.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Be sure to buy the enterprise version.

What do you dislike?

I'm not crazy about the client endpoint solution. It certainly works, but there is not central management console. This means you need to install and configure on each client machine.

What do you like best?

It pretty easy to setup backup jobs for our virtual machines and CIF shares. The UI is understandable and realativley easy to figure out.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Make sure you take into account the ongoing support. Negotiate 5 years of support into your initial purchase. It's much cheaper to buy it up front, then to negotiate it later.

What do you dislike?

Troubleshooting failed back ups or credential issues aren't easy and there's is not really much support or documentation on the Veeam site or on the internet but I'm sure in up coming releases they will address these issues.

What do you like best?

Its the top VMware backup solution in the market. They free version is excellent. Easy to use interface and setup. Backups are really fast. The quick migration feature is something I really like and it has helped me a lot when disasters happen. I like the it also support Microsoft Hyper V backups as well.

Try it and you wont use another back up software to backup your images

Interface colours - just kidding nothing really, top product!

Honestly the list here could go on and on especially with new version 9 released recently this product is one of my favorites pieces of software ever invented. Here is just few top features:
- instant VM recovery let you start VM directly from backup
- file level recovery
- item level recovery Veeam Explorer form MS Exchange, SQL, SharePoint
- web recovery portal for help desk person
- backup encryption, compression, deduplication, swap exclusions
- guest files

What do you dislike?

We have had issues with dealing with our small footprint of legacy physical hosts. Unfortunately, we needed to make use of Veeam's file-copy functionality which is a far from ideal solution when it comes to backup of physical servers.

Retention Periods could use some work- I'd like the ability to set in one job multiple retention periods, IE: keep 30 days of dailies, 4 weekly's beyond that, and 12 monthly restore points beyond that.

What do you like best?

Veeam was very easy to integrate with our existing VMware environment. Creating backup jobs and setting up basic retention periods was very easy. Setting up secondary destinations and the WAN accelerator was also very simple, allowing us to quickly institute a robust backup strategy with offsite duplication. The deduplication and integrated CBT makes the backup footprint very small and causes a much smaller amount of network overhead compared to the other backup tools we've used.

We got the unfortunate opportunity of using Veeam a few weeks ago to restore an entire cluster of VMs (SAN Failure caused 10TB in VMs to require restoration) We found that 100% of attempted restores were successful and it allowed us to get back on track with a much smaller outage window compared to our old D2T solution.

Veeam Support has been relatively good, Though you can't instantly get someone on the phone, once they do call back (within 4 hours for a standard issue) I have always gotten a competent engineer, which is something you can't say about many other big players in the backup field.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Realize that while there may be some sticker shock especially if you're coming from an older solution such as BE, the price is nothing compared to lost data.

Make sure you have a disk based backup solution in place, While veeam can do a D2T backup, I recommend going with a D2D2D or D2D2T solution

The price seems to go up fairly often and is harder to sell to small businesses.

Works great and is fast! We backup a large amount of data and it dos it with ease.
