What do you dislike about the product?

When configuring for multiple regions running identical software products, AppDynamics it time consuming (and boring) to configure all applications the same. This applies to dashboards, as well.

What do you like best about the product?

AppDynamics self discovery made it useful soon after installation. The Flowmaps is awesome.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Be sure to know what you want. It can be costly to add additional features after the agreement has been reached.
Dedicate staff to the install and administration.
Take classes and/or sign-up for consulting time.

What do you dislike about the product?

Appdynamics is an agent based solution for different monitoring scopes. In modern world with devOps mindset,in multi tenant scenario, integrating agent installation with the custom configuration in devOps generic pipelines is hard.
There is a reason for that, that is because to give the tenants to do customisation. But they can be done only during installation not after. So to have a generic pipeline for installtion covering everything is hard to keep up.

What do you like best about the product?

Data representation based on different views is one of the best feature.
For an example if you a developer the granularity of telimetry data and metrics you can represent for a developer mind set is a huge advantage. On the other side if you are a business person rather going technical level of granularity, the way the business important data as in Business transactions been presented in an understanding manner is a huge benifict.

AppD is one of the market leaders in APM industry in Gartenr Quodrant reviews,
Plus the benificts you get as a user is massive per my personal experience. Highly recommended for enterprises to use AppD as the main Monitoring tool.

What do you dislike about the product?

1) Does not allow grouping in Analytics by custom fields
2) Does not store ADQL in Analytics in URL, you can lose your query in case of simple QL grammar error (NewRelic is more duligent for this case)
3) Some anarchy on capturing parameters (may allow to have different UserId and UserID columns which makes hard to group data in future)

What do you like best about the product?

1) Convenient UI
2) Comprehensive documentation and friendly user groups + support
3) Metrics + Alerts - amazing functionality to keep eye on all applications friction parts.

What do you dislike about the product?

appdynamics is not for cloud native world. we had a poc with appdynamics for our kubernetes environment. It was terribly time consuming to implement on kubernetes. Appdynamics is not aware of variations of kubernetes in technical details. There are many missing parts like end to end observability. Ability to create custom dashboards for kubernetes services is pretty poor. All the offerings are perfect in paper but we were not able to see them on real world. We were unable to see a full picture of our environment with end to end point of view, full stack. We were not able to see underlying infrastructure , the VMs of kubernetes. It's a full-time job for one or more people to get trained, perform integration, maintain, and analyze output from AppDynamics.

What do you like best about the product?

appdynamics is a comprehensive monitoring tool for traditional world. It has a lot to offer. It reduces timet to identify of root causes of problems .

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Please work with a good knowledgable partner or directly with appdynamics. AppDynamics offers lots of functionality, but doesn't implement any one of the features particularly well. Other APM solutions suffer from similar problems. Consider if you need a more specialized tool or custom solution to solve a specific issue you're having. Make sure that the way AppDynamics expects a centralized team to handle operations matches your organizational structure. It's a full-time job for one or more people to get trained, perform integration, maintain, and analyze output from AppDynamics.
