What do you dislike?

FileMaker is constantly striving to improve the platform. However, it is frustrating to see some legacy aspects of the platform depreciate and be removed. Things like custom web publishing with xml and php and runtime application support are currently depreciated (or no longer maintained). Many of these features are critical to long time users of the platform. Charting capabilities are also extremely limited, which creates a rather significant barrier for certain use cases in my organization.

What do you like best?

FileMaker is the best rapid application development platform for the average end user. It has a very steep learning curve, and possesses a unique balance of easy to use features for new developers and users, as well as powerful programatic capabilities for seasoned developers.

What do you dislike?

Long term scalability is always a concern in many of the applications we have developed. However when we get to needing to scale state wide or nationally we will cross that bridge then.

What do you like best?

Having a business background I often found I needed a custom app to solve a real problem in business. However I needed something fast and economical but also something that could continue to evolve. FileMaker has been the best approach for this.

Wether you need an internal custom app or a real prototype for hashing out a large project FileMaker meets a the needs to start solving your communication and data needs.

What do you dislike?

What's not to like? An ever-growing list of calculation functions and script commands, an ever-improving pallet of layout and UI tools, and increasing interaction with other technologies?

What do you like best?

I've been able to make a 20-year career programming in FileMaker and its associated products, helping businesses and individuals organize and share their information, and automate their business processes. And yet FileMaker surprisingly easy for the new user to pick up and begin to solve problems with. Ease of initial use, combined with extensibility that is off the charts, for all FileMaker's great features, this has to be the most important attribute.

For small to medium-sized workgroups, stop looking, this is your answer!

What do you dislike?

New versions and releases, too frequent. Licensing is somewhat complex. The need for too much third party plugins to do several tasks, not offered on the platform.

What do you like best?

Very powerful and stable if properly used. Has veteran and very experienced developers. Ease to get into, very friendly for small teams. Rapid development tool. Feel the power of commanding an handful of competent programers on a project. It's like the special forces, where a half squad of 5 do Job usually done by a platoon of 30.

Hire someone "combat proven" and experienced on the FileMaker platform and you will not regret it.
