What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Internally, we are use FileMaker 16 to manage our IT assets including integrating with 3rd party management tools through their REST APIs. FileMaker is awesome at being the superglue between loosely integrated cloud services that are really good at what they do, but not so good at playing nice with others.
Our clients have user FileMaker for everything from offline form response collection on iPads with sync, to automated processing and analysis of batch scientific data. The most common use is for small businesses which have an ad-hoc business process that is inefficient and disconnected, and prevents the business from growing beyond 10 employees. Think one staff member calling another staff member on the phone to find out if they did something, and then waiting around for the call back before they can proceed. Or a salesperson running into a customer and not being able to access accurate sales data for that customer.
What do you dislike?
Would love built-in css support for true responsive design, as well as option for advanced developers to code in a lower level native languages.
What do you like best?
Versatility. Beginners can build simple apps with little or no scripting that increase team efficiency and effectiveness by orders of magnitude. Advanced users can take those simple apps to the next level and build sophisticated solutions at about 25% cost/time of a traditional from-scratch custom web app.
