There are a few more steps necessary to export info into the spreadsheet than with Excel.

This is a free product that is a great alternative for the user who needs a basic writer or spreadsheet type platform. It will fulfill pretty much any need for a basic user.

The interface could be more elegant, still lot of small icons and few floating information on menus. It's hard to find some basic options because the menu is not centered, there are options on top and on the side. The fonts used in menu texts should be more smooth, more professional, because right now is a little bit crispy and look like and old computer software.

What do you like best?

OpenOffice best feature is not being free. OpenOffice can handle files of many extensions without changing the characters, values, images, font style or formulas. In fact, the fact of OpenOffice opens your files without changing is amazing, everytime you try to open a CSV or TSV on excel, it changes to XLS standards format, but OpenOffice stick with the original extension, which makes life easier when you are saving your big tables or slides.

Download it and give it a try. It's free, tons of updates and worth it if you need a fast writing and editing business suite in your life.

I don't really dislike anything about OpenOffice. No software is perfect, but OpenOffice continually updates to stay up with the standards and security need of the day.

What do you like best?

The word processing software has extensive features and allows us to create professional and complete text documents with a full range of tools. The spreadsheet has virtually everything Excel has and can save to different formats, so we can use and import files into various other programs. It is remarkable that this software is free and includes several other programs for presentations, databases and other business materials.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This software can create most essential office documents and can do so for free. It's very versatile and can be run on Mac and PC, so it's worth trying out if you use a paid software now. Once everyone is trained on this, then you can perhaps use OpenOffice full time. There are very few free programs out there with the value and capability of OpenOffice.

What do you dislike?

There will occasionally be file type or formatting issues, but nothing too bad otherwise. There's not much to dislike since it's free and mostly gets the job done. Sometimes files get saved in a format that other people that don't use OpenOffice can't load or get to load properly.

What do you like best?

This software package gives you pretty much all the capabilities of the popular and proprietary Microsoft package. We mostly use the word processor and spreadsheet software and found that it is just as functional as its MS counterparts. We love that it is free and open source and supported by a large community. Having confidence that it will be maintained and update is a great thing.

This is free and works wonderfully with all major documents types like doc, docx, xls. You can use a full suite of tools like word processor, spreadsheet, presentations and such to run your business thoroughly and completely. You don't have much to lose to download and try this software.

OpenOffice does not contain a personal data manager, email client or calendar application

It has a limited variety of fonts, but one can add fonts by downloading and installing them into the system.

* It's easy for beginners to install and learn to use with all the functions

* It has a good spell check and grammar check facility

* OpenOffice has a single interface that provides the user access to the entire suite.

* It facilitates to save files in PDF format without the use of pdf writer or any other plug-ins.

I dislike that sometimes when I send a manuscript to someone, their editing software can't read it. Unfortunately, Microsoft has made it especially difficult, because Word and MS Office don't "play nice" with OpenOffice or other alternative programs.

What do you like best?

I like that it's free, and open-source, so there is constantly new content being added.

OpenOffice is a great alternative to MS Word or even MS Office, as it is free and has far more functionality than the incredibly limited "free" MS Word currently available.

I have no complaints about this product, it has satisfied all my needs

It can be a bit of a hassle. Perhaps because it is free. Some platforms are hard to interact with open office.

I enjoy the free option and features. Very similar to Microsoft word.
