What do you dislike?

Exporting to other platforms can be tricky for newbies. Sometimes the x,y,z, coordinate systems did not match the intended platforms import settings

I love all the tutorials and free community resources SkethcUp provides. It made learning the interface very easy for my students.

Recommendations to others considering the product

YouTube has it all, to learn and do anything you want with Sketchup.

What do you dislike?

Could be a little more polished in terms of surface rendering.

I like the fact that I can create 3d models for 3d printing.

Don't like the cartoonish look some of the icons in the interface have :P

It's easy to use and intuitive, best tool for new designers

It can be difficult to output the model into our CAD software and ensure that its accurate, this may be down to our usage but something that has caused headaches.

What do you like best?

YOu can just pick this tool up and immediately start modeling with little to no training. Its great for massing and testing ideas, as well as quantifying your ideas with something people can see and discuss.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Its a good basic tool for getting started on BIM.

What do you dislike?

Not able to use for complex surfaces and detailed modelling. Rendering options are limited and needs third party plugins for it.

What do you like best?

Simple interface and easy to navigate for a 3D software. Not the most powerful but it delivers the essencial for daily 3D use. Excellent for a quick prototyping or a 3D sketch of a space. Photorealistic renderes can be done with third party plugins (not de ideal) but very handy with you do not have another dedicated software to render. Files size are decent and easy to open in different versions.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Don't expect high-end modelling from it. It's ideal for a quick prototyping or not complex shapes. Although that could be done, I would rather use PRO softwares for those heavy tasks. For the price, and an easy-to-use tool for basic tasks, I keep Sketchup with my essentials 3D softwares.

I wish there were a few more options for easy customization versus having to jump through several different menus and templates.

What do you like best?

The 3-D aspect for rendering drawings of the duct work that we design for customers. It's easy to use and to learn.

Like any 3D modeling program, it can be a giant pain to use, particularly when creating more complex shapes and curves.

SketchUp is free and simple enough to use. Plus, there's a TON of resources out there to support you.

Here's the deal: SketchUp is free and there's a ton of free training stuff out there online, plus a giant database of existing, already modeled objects out there.

I'm sure other CAD programs are better, but you can't beat the price with a stick.

What do you dislike?

The simple (free) version limits the ability to generate images with shadows. The other issue is the need for precision on more complex models that sometimes make editing difficult; again I use the program for its sped and simplicity.

What do you like best?

The speed in generating useful images and models and then being able to share this with Clients. The fact that everyone is familiar with this platform makes this program easy to use, especially with new clients.

Can't beat it for speed and ability to generate useful model to help in the design process.

Without additional plugin it looks too sketchy

How simple it is to build a model. Everything is pretty straight forward
