What do you dislike?

The models aren't BIM - so you aren't creating walls, you're creating lines and masses. The material rendering is usually pretty crude.

What do you like best?

SketchUp is great for basic 3D massing models - it's easy to quickly create 3D models and thanks to their free option, it's easy to share the 3D file with clients as well so they can view the design in 3D. I love that we can quickly mock up massing models and design options for those who need to see the design in 3D. The shading is easy to use to review basic sun paths. It's easy to add basic materials to give quick simple (non-realistic) details to the massing.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's great for basic modeling, but not great for BIM or realistic modeling.

The fact that everytime you draw something, all the faces stick together

What do you like best?

The ability to develop idea at the beginning stage when the design hasn't been defined yet. It is also can be use in later stages but it is not very easy to be controlled in term of dimension and components.

It is very useful for sketching which is its name, obviously. It is also useful for a speedy design of some simple concept. When it comes to a complex design, it is still useful but hard to control.

It has a lot of inaccuracy. Most programs are able to give precise dimensions and ketchup can't.

how easy it is to use.It is faster and easier to use than most 3D modeling projects.

3D Warehouse is a helpful community tool

Rendering capabilities are limited, gives a "sketchy" view, which can be useful in schematic design, but does not have the high level of rendering as other programs do

SketchUp is great for quick 3D studies, I've modeled a lot of typical conditions that we have in our designs, and saved them for reference and understanding

Recommendations to others considering the product

Just download and give it a try. No need for the "pro" version unless you are using those tools on a regular basis. I've never had an issue with the standard version

The limited file export options for other software or applications.

Ease of use, online instruction and the development of plugins make this THE 3d software I can't live without.

Fastest growing support from third party developers is making SketchUp competitive with other CAD soft. Ease of use, community support and software updates continue to bring new functionality that makes this software a key component in building fast, accurately and efficiently for multiple applications such as rendering, 3d printing, BIM and VR.

What do you dislike?

For bigger projects, it heavyly drains my computer's rescoures. The trees and lamp posts I import really doesn't work well because of the lag time so my sketches are made more basic with less detail because of that.

What do you like best?

I liked that it has a clean interface, meaning not too much menus or commands. It utilizes the buttoms of the mouse and keyboard well. It gives me the chance to see and reference dimensions and create a plan according to the sketch I made.

What do you dislike?

It can be a bit buggy with larger files, sometimes with pieces of the model disappearing. You really need to make sure that you group elements to that they do not get "stuck" together while you are working with them. Sometimes the icons are not intuitive, which is not so big of a deal because you can try and if it is not what you were looking to do you can simply "undo' and you are quickly set right.

What do you like best?

SketchUp is easy to use, but a little harder to master. As an example, my four-year-old like to draw very imaginative creations in SketchUp. I have used it for educational and professional purposes. Overall I would call it an entry level visualization tool for the architectural professions. The model library is a great resource and time saver. The interface is really easy to understand.
