What do you dislike?

UI interface is not very upmarket. Flat key-value storage inside buckets, even-though nested folder creation is possible its still based on keys. Bucket name should be unique across globe.

What do you like best?

Easy to get started and simple to use. Unlimited storage. Additional features include Versioning, Auto Archiving, Cross region replication, Static web hosting, Multiple tiers including reduced redundancy

What do you dislike?

Getting used to an object store versus and file store.

Ease of use and the built in connectivity with so many other AWS products.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Use a client like Cloudberry for easy of access.

What do you dislike?

Replacing existing files can be improved, especially with static websites. Hate when I have to reset the same permissions. If I could just edit the html/css right there it would simplify so much.

What do you like best?

How quickly it can be to set everything up. Also, the online tutorials that Amazon has explaining how to achieve your goals toward a number of projects. For instance, search Amazon for how to launch a simple website and you can be up and running within a couple of hours.

Search their tutorials for the type of project you're looking to complete and see how simple it can be to get started.

Price is not cheap but I think it is reasonable.

What do you like best?

Fast provisioning and high service availability.

There are a few disadvantages such as the inability to mount and s3 volume on a server, but these disadvantages make sense and don't limit things too much.

I love the API provided, which makes working with files in scripts so easy. No good administrator wants to do things by hand if they can avoid it!

Use ALL the services, move your services to the cloud! You will be much happier!

I dislike that Amazon is down so often. I feel like it might just be a concidence, but its been fluctuating on and offline alot recently.

I love how easy it is to access my information on S3. All of my devices can access my information on S3 from anywhere, anytime.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Have someone who is trained in using S3. Its much easier to train everyone on how to use it rather than everyone learning on their own.

What do you dislike?

Incomplete Multipart Uploads handling - if you forget about it it could cost you. Web UI could be better but it was improved lately and it's going in the right direction.

What do you like best?

It's virtually unlimited, gives you 99.999999999% durability and very high accessibility and if configured correctly could be cheap as chips. Great CLI and API. It's mature and super reliable solution with a lot of additional features like: static web hosting, versioning, lifecycle policies and storage classes (which allow you to lower the price even more). It's deeply integrated with a lot of other AWS solutions giving you wide range of usage schemas: from storing logs to website hosting and backups.

Reliable, highly available and extremely flexible object storage solution.

What do you dislike?

The idea that a file name with slashes behaves like a filename AND a directory structure is a bit weird at first.

What do you like best?

S3 has to be simplest file storage around. Just drag-and-drop or use the API to throw your files all over the web.

Easiest and cheapest solution by far, especially for use with EC2 or other Amazon products.

What do you dislike?

Managing files is just plain painful sometimes. Just a lot of clicking in their interface. Should be more like managing files on your local machine.

I like the reliability and how easy it is to spin up static websites from a bucket

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you only need static website hosting etc, it's hard to beat S3. However, if you're looking for general file management - you don't want S3. For that you'd want Dropbox or Google Drive.
